On January 16, 2009 during the January Convention held at the Embassy Suites in Greensboro, NC, 15 contestants competed in the AANC Grand Champion Auctioneer Competition. These contestants were FW "Bill" Billingsley of Mineral, VA; Ivan Broadwell of Clover, SC; Tom Burke of Charlotte, NC; Travis Cate of Norwood, NC; Benjamin Farrell of Chapel Hill, NC; Dale Fulk of Ararat, NC; Robert Gates of Lincolnton, NC; Dennis Hall of Highlands, NC; Walter L. House of Marshallberg, NC; Jim Isley of Reidsville, NC; Tom Jordan of Raleigh, NC; William B. Lilly, Jr. of Albemarle, NC; B. Mark Rogers of Mount Airy, NC; Colby C. Setzer of Greenbrier, AR; Doug Solomon of Misenheimer, NC.
After a close race among the strong competitors, Mark Rogers was crowned Grand Champion with Ben Farrell as Reserve Champion and Ivan Broadwell as 1st Runner-Up.
